Relationship & Connection — Vernon, BC

Relationship coaching in Vernon:
for how you show up, not just who with

One-to-one, in person, for the relationships you already have — partners, family, friends, coworkers.

This isn't couples counselling and it isn't clinical therapy. It's individual work on your own listening, your own grudges, and your own boundaries — the half of any relationship that's actually yours to change.

Relationship coaching, here, means working on your side of the relationship — the part you can actually change without needing the other person in the room. Mostly that comes down to two things: how well you actually listen, and how much you're still carrying that was never yours to carry in the first place.

What this actually looks like

Most people are listening for an opening, not an answer.

A fair estimate: in most conversations, people are only really absorbing about thirty percent of what's being said — and that thirty percent usually isn't information, it's ammunition for whatever they want to say next. Real listening, the kind that actually changes a relationship, is rarer than people think and harder to practice than it sounds.

People aren't listening to understand. They're listening for an opening to disagree, because agreeing or disagreeing feels like the whole point of a conversation, when it isn't.

— from Week 31, "Thirty Percent Listening"

Listen is one of the Five for exactly this reason. Sessions work through real, recent conversations from your actual week — with a partner, a parent, a friend, a coworker — and practice the gap between hearing someone and just waiting your turn.

Who this tends to be for

People still carrying something that isn't theirs.

Some people come in stuck on one specific relationship — a repeating argument, a grudge that won't quite close, a boundary they keep meaning to set and don't. Others just notice they're reactive more often than they'd like to be, with the people they actually care about most.

Forgiveness comes up a lot in this work, and it isn't about agreeing with someone or staying in a situation that isn't good for you. It's about setting down what you've been carrying, on your own terms, whether or not the other person ever asks you to.

Questions people actually ask.

Is this couples counselling?

No. This is one-to-one coaching, not licensed couples or family therapy, and it isn't a substitute for that if genuine clinical support is what's needed. The work here is on your own side of a relationship, individually.

Does forgiving someone mean I have to stay in the relationship?

No. Forgiveness here is about setting down what you're carrying for your own peace — it says nothing about whether staying in contact with that person is good for you. Those are two separate questions.

Is this only for romantic relationships?

No — plenty of this work is about family, friendships, or a difficult coworker. The listening and boundary skills are the same regardless of who's on the other side of them.

What if the other person isn't willing to work on anything?

That's fine, and common. This is your side of the relationship, not theirs. You can change how you listen, what you carry, and where your boundaries sit without needing their participation at all.
